You picture the usual things. Loud music. Little sleep. A night your body definitely remembers the next morning.
And it was all of that. But the part that caught me came after the rave, not during it.
The next morning, a running brand, something like On Running (to be honest, I think it was them!), had shoes laid out and a track run organised. Sign up, lace up, jog it out.
As hangover cures go, it was optimistic. Or is that just me?
Anyways, people showed up.
Not enough to make it cultish. Just enough that it felt deliberate. Like the night out and the morning after were meant to belong to the same story.
That detail stuck with me.
Not because it was funny, though it made me chuckle in disbelief, but because it said something quietly important.
This Is What Health Looks Like Now
This is what health looks like now.
Not rigid. Not puritanical. And not removed from fun.
What’s changed isn’t that young people suddenly dislike nights out. It’s that excess is no longer the centre of gravity. Health has moved from something you recover back to, into something that quietly shapes the experience itself.
The night doesn’t have to cancel the next day anymore.
Drinking Less, Choosing More
Drinking less isn’t about discipline or self-denial. It’s about optionality.
Alcohol used to be the social default. You showed up, you drank, and the night followed a familiar arc. What’s changed is that younger people no longer organise their social lives around a single, prescribed outcome. Drinking is now one option among many, not the price of entry.

When money is tighter, time is scarcer, and certainty is thinner on the ground, people become more protective of their energy. Not out of vanity, but out of necessity. Feeling good stops being a bonus and starts being a requirement.
Exercise, recovery, and restraint make more sense when the margin for error shrinks. When one bad night carries a heavier cost. When burnout isn’t theoretical, but visible everywhere.

Where optimisation dominates, rebellion eventually follows. Where every choice is tracked, measured, and refined, something softer often emerges in response. Less performance. More presence. Less fixing. More being.
Today’s focus on health, recovery, and alignment may one day feel rigid to those who come next. And they’ll find their own language for balance, just as every generation does.
That doesn’t make today’s choices naïve or temporary. It simply places them where they belong, as part of an ongoing cultural rhythm.
